It is vital that we know and apply the daily required FULL amounts of each nutrient our individual body needs to maintain its optimum bio-chemistry activities.
The big pharmaceutical chemists who claim to "know" these levels of nutrient ingestion have both little clue as to the actual requirements of anyone, and, they have no real incentive to find out, as they are paid when YOU body malfunctions from lack of these vital nutrients, NOT when your body has enough to maintain its full healthy metabolism functions.

So, thankfully, we do have a growing library of clear evidences for the required amounts of nutrients our body health needs for each day, and the daily differences of these amounts due to stressors, illnesses, and the many other biological anomalies our individual body experiences.
With ALL the confusion over what to take for nutrient supplementation, how can anyone be reasonably certain that the supplement(s) is(are) beneficial?
This is a simple question and common sense answer for people whose life long diet is simple, unmanufactured, essentially farm-raised foods. Meats raised naturally on the ground and grass without medications and growth hormones, not fattened with loads of grains, and given reasonable shelter and daily tending to clean water and calm environment.
Those people with lives of ingesting manufactured, fast foods, processed boxed foods from their local grocer, whose sweets and snacks have destroyed their gut's digestion, who believed their doctor's orders to severely limit salt intake, who severely out of ignorance limit balanced, adequate mineral intake, and otherwise cause body damage have a far more complex disease profile to work with to balance out their nutrient intake.
The first thing to do is to get into a natural nutrient diet that is closest possible to the soil plants and animals are grown in and raised on. Eliminate ALL boxed, processed foods. Period. This may cause some nutrient issues as the body adjusts from addiction to unhealthy toxic substances, like sugars and processed tastes.
This will, over time, do two things that cause body healing . . .
A. The toxin loading will end and the toxin unloading organs will run cleaner and cleaner of their overload work.
B. The new intake of natural nutrients will plenish the body with the substances necessary to heal damaged parts, restore natural functions and reduce illnesses. This may cause very uncomfortable sensations from long use of harmful elements while one's tastes and feelings return to natural points.
As these changes cause one's senses of well being to shift, some of the masked ills from the food substitutes may be pronounced in their sensations. Note these sensations and when persistent have them examined as they may indicate severe nutrient deficiency that was masked by the addiction to the substitute foods.
In the rest of this vitamin discourse there is lots of details for the many factions of our complex natural nutrient variety of individual elements. We need not frustrate over the complexity all that much when a natural, closest to the soil diet is held to as the natural foods themselves have the same complexity as our health requires IF they are produced in and on fully nutrient-dense soils with all the nutrients our health requires.
Since this is actually NOT the case for 99% of our food supplies, we must be keenly aware of the deficiencies that our foods have. Our individual metabolism plays another key factor in the degree of each nutrient as well, since our body has its own nutrient requirements that are most certainly far different from ALL others' requirements for the same nutrients.
Our body also has changing requirements for nutrients caused by our changing age, environment and sense of calm and our rest and relationships.
Many good nutrition guides from knowledgeable natural health people are available to augment the discourse here, but the ones to select are those whose authors adhere to the diet and health guidance closest to the ground our nutrition comes from. This simple fact helps weed out whole libraries of diet deception.

I tend to consider this elegant substance with a mind of deep respect. Not that it is a bit more vital, but that it's overall effect on our body metabolism has so wide an effect for so many of the functions.

widely used academically and commercially.[44] The SELECT study for prostate cancer used racemic alpha-tocopherol, for instance, and has shown no benefit.[45]
The study, cited above, showing a modest increase in cancer risk with
Vitamin E supplementation, reported that more than 90% of its
respondents used a racemic form of Vitamin E (d,l-alpha-tocopherol).[46] A meta-analysis of studies using Vitamin E, sorting results by the form (racemic vs non-racemic) used, is necessary.
The caveat is that when reading reports of Vitamin E research we *MUST* ascertain that the study was *NOT* by a big pharma research group *AND* natural Vitamin E in *ALL* its *BALANCED* sub parts was used in *ALL* study instances.

This has been quite a week. First news reports scared women into thinking multivitamins are dangerous. Now, they’re scaring men into thinking vitamin E is a cause of prostate cancer. But, once again you’re not getting all the facts.
Vitamin E Is Not a Cause of Prostate Cancer This media circus is focused on a study just released by the National Institutes of Health. When they followed up on participants who participated in SELECT, which was a large-scale trial meant to show vitamin E reduces prostate cancer, they found that those men taking vitamin E actually had a 17 percent increase in prostate cancer.
These findings don’t surprise me at all. The very design of this study was doomed to fail from the beginning. Let me explain why.
Vitamin E and Prostate Cancer
There are eight different forms of vitamin E (four tocopherols and four tocotrienols). If you give someone 400 IU of dl-alpha tocopherol alone—which is what they did in this study—it's my opinion that you’re essentially giving them an overdose of this one form of vitamin E.
What happens is that the dl-alpha tocopherol vitamin E overwhelms the vitamin E gamma receptors. So, instead of getting a protective antioxidant effect, you may get a pro-oxidative damaging effect because the peroxynitrite radicals go unchecked. The prevention of prostate cancer and BPH has been shown to be related
to dietary intakes of some key nutrients, and several herbal extracts
also can strongly influence prostate problems. BPH and cancer are very
treatable health conditions. But a lot of formulas do not contain high
quality ingredients. It's very important, however, that the particular
herbal extracts and nutrients are of the highest quality available and
meet European pharmaceutical standards.
We, at Smart Publications, have reviewed all the literature on
nutritional prevention and treatment for BPH and prostate cancer. In
this body of research, there are many natural substances that have
positive effects on prostate health. However, we were not satisfied with
a suggestive study or two. We looked hard and selected the following 10
items based on the following criteria:

There had to be a significant number of studies indicating positive
prostate health effects and the studies had to be independently
replicated.

We had to be convinced about the safety based on a long history of
traditional use of the substance by humans or long history of scientific
investigation or both.
Here's what we found:

Boron - According to a study done last year at UCLA,
men with the highest boron intake were 65 percent less likely to develop
prostate cancer than men with the lower boron intake. The researchers
compared dietary patterns of 76 men with prostate cancer to that of
7,651 males without cancer. Men in the lowest quartile of boron
consumption ate about one slice of fruit per day, while those in the
highest quartile ate 3.5 servings of fruit per day. The researchers
found that boron's cancer-fighting effects seem to be specific for
prostate cancer. Foods that are high in boron include: red wine,
raisins, peanuts, apples, pears, peaches, oranges, grapes, lima beans,
and peanut butter.10

Daidzein - is an isoflavone found in soybeans,
legumes and peas. Soy isoflavones are free radical scavengers (potent
antioxidants) and are antiangiogenic (interfere with unwanted blood
vessel growth in disease states). They have been shown to have a
beneficial effect on various types of cancer.
In countries like Japan, where soy consumption is high, there is
approximately an 80 percent lower incidence of prostate cancer than in
the West. In a study that followed Japanese men who immigrated to the
United States and abandoned their traditional diets, it was found that
within one generation, there was a four-fold to nine-fold increase of
prostate cancer among them.11
But, unfortunately, the main isoflavone in soy, genistein, actually
seems to have undesirable toxic effects. Only now is pure daidzein, the
other isoflavone in soy, available as a supplement.
Daidzein doesn't share genistein's toxic properties, and was
demonstrated to be very protective against prostate cancer in a study
showing that peas dramatically reduce risk of prostate cancer. Peas
contain a lot of daidzein, but not genistein.12

Grape seed extract - contains proanthocyanidins,
potent antioxidants that may lower the risk of cancer. In a recent
study, grape seed extract was used to inhibit cell growth in human
cancerous prostate cells. The results suggest that grape seed
antioxidant proanthocyanidins may exert a strong anticarcinogenic effect
against prostate cancer by inhibiting abnormal cell growth and
promoting tumor cell death.13

Green tea - Next time you eat at a Japanese or
Chinese restaurant, order a pot of green tea! It not only tastes good,
but scientists have observed that people who consume tea regularly have a
lower risk of prostate (and breast) cancer-related deaths. In fact, the
incidence of prostate cancer in China, a population that consumes green
tea on a regular basis, is lowest in the world.14
And sure enough, recent studies done both on human cells and mice, have
shown that green tea's polyphenol—epigallocatechin-3-gallate—blocks the
growth of prostate cancers.151617

Lycopene - Have you had your tomato sauce today? This
member of the family of phytochemicals known as carotenoids, is a
powerful antioxidant that is found in red fruits and vegetables,
especially tomatoes, watermelon, red grapefruit, and guava. Researchers
have linked the frequent use of lycopene from tomatoes to a lower risk
of prostate and other cancers.18
Interestingly, in one study, researchers found that significantly lower
serum and tissue lycopene levels were observed in the cancer patients
than in their control group, indicating that lycopene prevents oxidative
damage of biomolecules and consequently reduces the risk of prostate
cancer.19

Vitamin E - is a major antioxidant nutrient that
helps maintain healthy membranes and retards cellular aging due to
oxidation. It is especially important to sexual and reproductive health.
One study that followed more than 29,000 male Finnish smokers, ages 50
to 69, for five to eight years, showed that vitamin E reduces the risk
of prostate cancer.20
Our diets contain mostly the gamma tocopherol form of vitamin E. Most
dietary supplements contain only alpha tocopherol, not gamma tocopherol.
Unfortunately, high intakes of alpha tocopherol actually pushes the
preferred gamma form of vitamin E out of the body. And since the most
current research shows it is gamma tocopherol that is associated with a
reduction of prostate cancer—especially when combined with selenium and
alpha tocopherol 21 —make sure you take a supplement that contains gamma
and alpha, not just alpha tocopherol!21

Selenium - There have been many studies showing a
direct connection between selenium and prostate cancer, and most
nutritionist agree, it's hard to get enough of it on a daily basis
without taking a nutritional supplement. In the now famous Clark Study, a
63% reduction in prostate cancer was found in men who received 200
micrograms of selenium from a selenium-enriched yeast containing mostly
selenomethionine. The conclusion? Eat more tuna, Brazil nuts, and
sunflower seeds, and to guard against gaps in your diet, take a daily
supplement containing 200 micrograms of selenium from selenium-enriched
yeast or selenomethionine!22
Another study conducted at Stanford University found that low plasma
selenium is associated with a 4 to 5-fold increased risk of prostate
cancer. These results support the hypothesis that supplemental selenium
may reduce the risk of prostate cancer. And because plasma selenium
decreases with patient age, supplementation is particularly beneficial
to older men.23

Kohki leaf- If you have problems with an overactive
bladder—a common and annoying BPH complaint—this nutrient will help cut
down your trips to the bathroom! Unlike other compounds, Kohki actually
prevents the adverse changes in the bladder that often accompany
prostate problems. Kohki comes from a subtropical plant that grows wild
in southern China. It has been used medicinally in East Asia for
hundreds of years and is sold over the counter today in Japan as a
medicinal tea. It contains strong antioxidants, including several
dihydroflavonol glycosides, that have been shown to have a significant
protective effect on bladder function.24

Pygeum africanum - is an evergreen tree that grows in
the mountainous forests of Africa. Unfortunately it has become an
endangered species due to its popularity as a european pharmaceutical
for prostate problems. Luckily, high quality extract is still being
produced using farmed trees grown on plantations for medicinal use. This
bark extract has been prescribed by European doctors for years, both to
help preserve prostate health and promote a man's overall well being.
Pygeum not only helps common prostate problems but also promotes
prostate function. Unlike saw palmetto, it is not toxic to prostate
cells and is even an antioxidant. It contains a variety of active
compounds that synergistically aid prostate health. Many studies have
shown the effectiveness of Pygeum extract in treating BPH, including
reduction of the frequency of nighttime urination25; and relief of symptoms associated with genito-urinary problems resulting from BPH.26

becomes an oxidant in the process. Notwithstanding a pot of boiling oil,

oxidant and antioxidant. It is important to know that while antioxidants

Synthetic Vitamin E is Problematic, so Why Did they Use it?
In this case, the vitamin E used was all rac-α-tocopheryl acetate—a synthetic petrochemically-derived form of dl-alpha tocopherol, which has known toxic effects. GreenMedInfo.com has a listing of published research relating to the many ill health effects related to this compound. The Toxicology Data Network also lists numerous health problems related to synthetic vitamin E at various dosages.
Unfortunately, most studies investigating vitamins use synthetic
versions. On the one hand this is good, as synthetic vitamins in general
have overwhelmingly been shown to be largely harmless. However, studies
such as this one—and the journalists reporting on the findings—can also
do great disservice by failing to specify that the results pertain to petrochemically-derived vitamin E. The study says absolutely nothing about the health effects of natural vitamin E (d-alpha tocopherol).Part of the problem with synthetic alpha tocopherol is that it depletes gamma tocopherol.
As explained in a recent article by Life Extension:
"In 1997, we announced that taking only the alpha tocopherol form of vitamin E displaces critically important gamma tocopherol in the body. By displacing gamma tocopherol, we feared that high doses of alpha tocopherol could increase cancer risks.
In fact, three years after Life Extension's first warning, the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health released the results of a huge study
(10,456 men). The findings showed that men with the highest gamma
tocopherol blood levels had a fivefold reduction in prostate cancer
risk. This same study showed that selenium and alpha tocopherol also
reduced prostate cancer risk but only when gamma tocopherol levels were
high. Confirmatory studies document higher levels of gamma tocopherol to be strongly associated with reduced cancer risks.
While both alpha and gamma tocopherol are potent antioxidants,
gamma tocopherol has a unique function. Because of its different
chemical structure, gamma tocopherol scavenges reactive nitrogen species, which can damage proteins, lipids, and DNA.
… The fact that supplementation with isolated, synthetic alpha
tocopherol depletes plasma gamma tocopherol levels means that the
researchers who designed the SELECT trial created a biological
catastrophe… The fact that higher prostate cancer rates were observed in
the group overloaded with synthetic alpha tocopherol in the SELECT
trial was predictable and expected based upon fundamental facts Life
Extension understood more than a decade ago."

Did You Know? Some Vitamin E on Market May be Genetically Modified
Another risk factor of vitamin E supplements and foods fortified with vitamin E relates to the fact that it may be derived from genetically modified (GM) plants.
The chemical name for vitamin E is "tocopherol." Tocopherol, which is
the generic term for at least seven different types of vitamin E, are
naturally formed in a variety of plants.
Tocopherol can be produced either by chemical synthesis, or by extraction from:
- Maize
- Soy beans
- Cotton seed
- Rice
- Wheat germ oil
The problem is that a large majority of these plants are now
genetically modified—at least in the U.S. In Europe, foods and
supplements containing GM-derived vitamin E must be labeled as such. The
U.S. however, does not require genetically modified foods and products
to be labeled, so there's no telling what you're getting. Unfortunately,
verifying the non-GM status of tocopherols is particularly challenging
as many companies that control the supply of vitamin E collect plant
oils from commingled sources.

But there's more… Upon closer review, it seems the researchers went
to great lengths massaging the data to reach their own preconceived
conclusions. As explained in a recent article by Alliance for Natural Health:
"Dr. Robert Verkerk, our scientific director'[s]… analysis
reveals, among many other interesting points, that all of the data was
"adjusted" by the authors using methods of their own choice. If you look at the study itself,
the first thing you see is an adjustment for "age and energy"… After
this adjustment, vitamins C, B complex, E, D, as well as calcium,
magnesium, selenium, and zinc all appear to add to years lived."

This study is a classic example of scientific reductionism being used
to fulfil a particular need. In this case, it’s supplement bashing, a
well-known preoccupation of Big Pharma — and an approach that appears to
be central to the protection of Big Pharma’s profit margins.

If you ask me, the timing of these studies hitting the news couldn't
possibly be more convenient. Last month, I wrote a couple of articles
about the FDA's latest plan to effectively eliminate many commonly used supplements
by amending the definitions for new dietary ingredients (NDI's) and
retroactively applying them to products already on the market. You can

This proposed mandate goes hand-in-hand with S.1310: Dietary Supplement Labeling Act of 2011,
introduced at the end of June by U.S. Senator Richard Durbin
(D-Illinois). This legislation is, using the words of Byron J. Richards,
"an alarming regulatory nightmare that is trying to treat vitamins as if they are drugs."
The open comment period on the FDA's proposed guidelines will expire
on December 2nd, and I for one would not be the least surprised if the
studies discussed above will be used as justification for driving
through Durbin's legislation and the FDA's amended NDI definitions.
After all, if they can sway public opinion once again into thinking that
supplements can KILL you, then people will support the idea that we
need to treat supplements like drugs and require them to undergo the
same detailed and costly kind of testing.
This is ridiculous, as vitamins, minerals and herbal supplements have a tremendously safe track record. Meanwhile, drugs are known to cause well over 100,000 deaths per year when taken as prescribed, and two million more suffer serious side effects. For comparison, look at:

Vitamin K
In the Summer of 2010 after her life of dining on essentially high starch and empty mineral and vitamin foods, including her penchant for fast foods, soda drinks, and loads of sugar, no fruit, no dark green leafy greens, and none of the liver I asked her to make at least for me, the organs of my late wife began failing her. to "corrct" all her digestion ills and the body pain she constantly suffered with she bought loads of over the counter drugs that relieved the pains, but worsened the causes.
First her sight went in a month and a half. Then at the end of the year she went into deep depression and stopped eating. After intensive treatment she pulled out and began some enjoyment of living. Then her heart quit. During the preliminary heart surgery investigation to determine if she could survive, it was found her entire organs were too far gone to sustain the operation.
Eventually, after all the toxic big pharma meds she died from that she devoutly had faith in which the nursing home staff dutifully followed "Doctor's Orders" to force down her throat, her body quit.
During that three years I began searching for natural nutrients to reverse her diseased body failure in the last ditch hope she would finally see that natural elements are the one means to heal the body. When the calcified heart valve was discovered that search led me to discover that Vitamin K-2 is one of the first that older people see depleted in their lower gut due to insufficient salt and digestive acid production as a result of the inadequate salt intake.

This can be a severe issue inside our blood system as well when a trauma to a blood vessel can cause the clotting and subsequent vessel blocking and organ blood supply shut off.
Here again, the big pharma boys totally messed up when they discovered that the same toxic chemical that is used in rat poison to cause internal bleeding to death can be used to thin blood in people with nutrient deficiencies that cause their blood to clot abnormally. So, rather than repair the cause of the clotting - deficient nutrition - these Hellions substituted Rat Poison to treat the deadly disease!
However, in my search, as the deadly doctors tending to my wife's death prescribed Rat Poison for her failing health that was forming blood clotting, I found a real doctor who uses only Cod Liver Oil and Vitamin E with all its many factors to prevent all abnormal clotting, and not a single bad side effect with common sense quantity!
